Showcase Of Life – Classic Car Gallery

Kuala Lumpur, local space fell behind economic space development cause a serious gap with rapidly developing space. Individuals ignore and neglect outside world for living. It seems that people gather in one place whereas each person exists scattered. People are all alone. Whereas they exist in the same place, they see different places. The beauty of interchange human value being forgotten by the fast pace and busy life of Kuala Lumpur. The key factor of this proposal is to establish a new social connector that brings back the value of humanity in this hustle and bustle city. Coexisting of local space and economic space creates a new perspective, social soundness and new relationship in this state.

Issue

Tourism plays an important part in the economic life of Kuala Lumpur, providing income, employment and expanding business opportunities. Besides that, tourism is the crucial field to publicize the culture of Malaysia to global. Issues found in tourists are inadequate & segmented tourist development causing them felt not interested to travel to another tourist spot due to transportation problem. Development of tourist spot should plan near to current tourist spots to give convenient to the tourists.

Classic Car Gallery

Heritage value and greenery site background leads the idea to propose a classic car gallery. Classic car gallery consists of enjoyment to appreciate the beauty of classic cars, local cuisine, and local culture events. On the other hand abandoned 1930 heritage shop houses proposed adaptive used as boutique hotel and local art and craft gift shop to complete the journey of heritage trails 2.

Site

Site selection plays the important role in success of the proposal. The site located at Lot 215, 216 and 217, Seksyen 57 Jalan Raja Chulan, Bukit Nanas, Kuala Lumpur. Due to its location in between 2 well developed urban area, the site act as a transition area. Greenery atmosphere provides a peaceful and calm feeling at the site. Furthermore, the site was within a walking distance from Majlis Jamek LRT station and Raja Chulan monorail station, it gives convenient for tourist to reach the site. The proposal site just beside the heritage trail 2. The starting point of heritage trails two from heritage square (Jalan Merdeka), garden city (Jalan Gereja), then forest reserve (Jalan Raja Chulan). Thus, propose project – classic car gallery able to attract the tourists continue visit at the place.

Concept - Knot

This project aims to tie the culture, economic, tourism together so with inserting an urban program that able to sustain itself while providing a great platform for social. It believed able to continue lively throughout the day. Building form follow the shape of knot. Knot shape contrast with the local context, it able to stand out from the site. Building entrance purposely makes it small and narrow. Once they enter into the multipurpose space, spacious and height of the space able to impress visitor. Significant cantilever is the feature design for the building, totally transparent gallery make the space inside out. Courtyard that protected from the direct sunlight and greenery environment become a place where people gather and celebrate, such as night market and open concert.
