Project Description

Destination Spa

A destination spa is a resort centered on a spa, such as a mineral spa. Historically, destination spas were developed at the location of natural hot springs or mineral springs. Typically over a seven-day stay, such facilities provide a comprehensive program that includes spa services, physical fitness activities, wellness education, healthy cuisine and special interest programming. This project gives exposure to 1st year architecture student with a complex space making compare to previous project. Space-making required consideration on personal, social and public space. The site located at tropical garden University Technology Malaysia. Area of the site is 110m x 75m. Tropical Garden is a public park meant for UTM community as well as residents.

The concept of spa design is metaphor of a flock of birds flying across the lake. The roof structure plays the attraction point in my design. The roof not only has aesthetic value but respond to tropical weather as well. Spaces arranged in clustered organization with centralized pattern. Accommodation spaces and spa spaces shared the common space (Lobby) so clustered organization give convenience for customer. All the spaces do not design under the same roof but segregated to small structure. This design is to suit the tropical climate so that the passive wind and natural sunlight can get into the spaces.
